Skateboard Deck Design

This is my submission for the Skateboard deck For our Sketching for Communications class. The theme was obviously “Predator” and this is what i came up with. Just a very simple design of a common and well known predator, the Wolf. In this design i simply laid out the text with a scratch in the words. Then creating the silhouette’s of the different prey that the Wolf likes to hunt or kill. To finish i I added the habitat of many wolves, the forest.

Video Game Review

Call Of Duty : Modern Warfare 3

Company  Activision, Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games
Available Platforms  PlayStation 3, Xbox 360,  PC, Wii, Nintendo DS
Genre  Action
ESRB Rating  Mature
For a game like Modern Warfare 3 , a “Mature” Rating is very appropriate. With the use of weapons and the amount of violence portrayed in this game, Mature is very appropriate. This game should only be played by teenagers that are 17+ years of age. Kids under this age should not be playing because of the amount of violence and killing that is portrayed in this First Person Shooter.

Story   Modern Warfare 3 takes place in the year 2016. In this story, the gamer is playing a character named Yuri, a former Spetsnaz most of the time. Yuri carries a grudge against Makarov (the villain) because of there history together. Makarov’s only mission is to basically destroy the world and to create as much destruction as he can. With the help of Captain Price, Soap and your comrades, you all team up to rid Makarov of his plans and his life. The plot takes place worldwide and shows destruction like you’ve never seen before. Objective of the game, kill Makarov.

Graphics 4/5 – Graphics as always, is almost realistic making the game a better experience for gamers around.
Audio 5/5 – Sound effects from gunshots, to explosions to helicopters, the sounds in the game are impressive. Especially with a Sound Surround System or just any average Sound System, gamers will be surrounded by remarkable sounds of war. Story Mode Game Play 4/5 – With the continuation of the story from Modern Warfare 2, gamers will find themselves travelling around the world, however with destruction every turn they take. The story is amazing however, only downfall is the short duration of the story.
Difficulty 3/5 – In the Campaign Mode, difficulty is not really that much difficult. For ‘real’ gamers, getting through the story mode is ease and takes no time at all to finish the entire Campaign.
Multiplayer Game Play  5/5 – The Call Of Duty series is known for there amazing multiplayer gameplay. In their new installment (MW3), they really brought all the cards off the table. New killstreak system, perk system, gun system, different but better. With everything being thought of, Modern Warfare 3 will be a hard one to beat in the multiplayer gameplay side of things.

DMA 101 – Character Illustration : Ninja

Finished Product

This is my submission for the Character Illustration project for my New Media Tools course. We were required to find and select a sketch with detail and vectorize and color it in Adobe Illustrator. I found the sketch on and it is by Nemafronspain – This project really did take time to finish however, it was fun. The main problem I came across upon doing this was just basically figuring out which layers go on top of which and to make sure everything was connected, no white spaces. But in total, I didn’t have to much trouble completing this, just a lot of time. I am glad of how it turned out in the end and hope to be doing more of these in the future.

DMA188 – UI Blog

1.Structure Principle

It should have a very organized and structural approach. Things should be structured well together, with the things that are alike go together and things that are different are separated.

10. Use color appropriately
14. Justify data appropriately
15. Your design should be intuitable

Netflix was a great website for the Structure Principle because it is in fact very organized. It lets the user see and know the different movie categories and it is very visible. It is structured and organized in a way that would appeal to the user because whatever the user will need to find, they just need a key word such as “drama” and everything drama related will be organized into that section.

2.Simplicity Principle

Plain and simple. Nothing should distract the user form the real purpose and everything should be easy and simple to find.

16. Don’t create busy user interfaces
17. Group things effectively
1. Consistency

Google was a very easy choice for the Simple Principle. Google is the best when it comes to simple. All the user will need to do is type anything they want in the search bar and then every possible relation to that phrase inputed will be shown to the user.

3.Visibility Principle

Don’t clutter the interface with too many things or unnecessary things. The user should be able to see what he/she needs to see.

16. Don’t create busy user interfaces
14. Justify data appropriately
6. Navigation within a screen is important was a great choice for the Visibility Principle. Only the things the user will need to see is on the homepage and nothing is distracting them. A user will most likely want to know what the upcoming shows are and what has been recently added which is exactly what this website does. It is very perfect for easy access and quick access to what the user wants.

4.The Feedback Principle –

The feedback principle is the principle that informs users with any problems or changes the interface may be going through at the moment. Wording your messages and labels effectively is a key technique when inform users that there are going to be changes, or if things are not working properly. The technique of making the interface intuitable means that everything on the interface is easy to understand and straight forward making it easy for users to understand. A third technique that applies to the feedback principle is explaining the rules, this technique is used to help users get a better understand on how the interface works, and if there are problems, they can go back and relearn everything about the interface.

This is a good example of the Feedback Principle because the message being sent out to the user is very concise and straight to the point. Also the message tells the user what to do to avoid this problem again, making the interface more efficient for the user.

5.The Tolerance Principle – Microsoft Word

The tolerance principle is used when making a design that is both tolerant and flexible, depending on how the user uses the interface. For a tolerant design, the technique of explaining the rules helps the user understand how to use the interface, and what will happen. The technique of expecting your users to make mistakes creates a more flexible design for the user, and it makes it less frustrating if a user when coming across errors or making invalid entries. The technique of justifying data appropriately also creates for an easy to understand design, and allows the user to come across less errors, making the design more tolerable.

Microsoft Word Processor is a great example of an interface that follows the tolerance principle. This is because the program is easy to understand and also there are many options to choose from making it flexible, and also options such as undo and redo making it more efficient and tolerable for the user.

6.The Reuse Principle –

The reuse principle is important for creating an interface that is easy to understand and includes a consistent purpose, function, and visual design. It also should reduce the user to remember or rethink how everything looks, and works. The technique of keeping a consistent design is crucial when using the reuse principle. Using color appropriately is also a key technique for the reuse principle, because keeping a consistent color makes it easier for the user to understand the interface. When adding color, the technique of following the contrast rule makes the interface easy to the eyes, and reusing this technique allows for a consistent design throughout, and it makes it easier for the user to read everything. follows the reuse principle due to its consistent design when it come to its colors, and how they contrast with one another making it easy to read for the user.

In Class

This was an Adobe Illustrator lesson in class, we were required to vectorize the sketch in Illustrator. I just did the head in class during the lesson and was just bored at home one night and felt like finishing it roughly. This was done very quickly.

DMA101 – Sports Logo

Final Product

This is my Sports Logo project for New Media Tools. It was actually my first time using Adobe Illustrator so it was a new program for me. During this re-make of the Dallas Mavericks Logo, the only real problem I had or struggle was finding which layers to overlap with or put over. Throughout the process of remaking it I found at times difficult to figure out which layer to put on top or bottom, but at the end I got the hang of it. Also, the words weren’t really difficult but more of a decision to make; whether to use a ‘real’ font and just alter it to fit the logo, or to make it from scratch using the pen tool. I decided to use the pen tool because I thought it would be easier for me. So, here is my submission for the Sports Logo.

Audi R8 Design

Screenshot #1

After putting my Main Picture up, I wanted to be able to have categories on it as well so people would be able to click for more information. The problem I had for a while was trying to figure out how to go about designing the feature to look appealing. This was my first idea but knew I had to change it.

Screenshot #2

Once spending time thinking about how to design the categories, I was finally able to create something that looked appealing to me. Once i got that figured out, I placed the Logo and the Navigation bar at the top to make it look more official.

Finished Product

Everything started coming together, the navigation bar, logo and finally the Category section or the “Task Bar”. I was happy with how it came out and just put finishing touches to make it look better. I was going for a very simple but sophisticated and modern look.

Final Product #2

This is just another version of the website. Just using another visual for the Main Picture
